Sheikh Salaah al Budayr
May 22, 2009 ~ Jumadal Ula 27, 1430
All praise be to Allah, great in His Power, Mighty in His Force, All-Knowing of the condition of the slave in private and public. I praise Him on His Decree, the good (of it) and its evil. And I thank Him on pre-ordainment, the sweet of it and its bitter. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone. He has no partner. For him are brilliant signs, and from his signs is that the heaven and the earth stand by His Command. And I bear witness that our prophet and master Muhammad – peace be upon him – is His slave and messenger. May Allah send salutations and much peace upon him and on his family and companions.
Thereafter: O you Muslims: Fear Allah as ought to be feared, and hasten towards His Forgiveness and His pleasure, and race towards His mercy and His Paradise, and beware of His anger and the pain of His punishment. Verily Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are the good -doers.
O Muslims: Allah created the creation and He is worshiped forever, praised throughout the times. And from the signs of His Great Power is that He made the earth a static, firm mainland, not shaking and not disturbed. And not shaking and not moving with its people and not trembling with those upon it. And He made it a resting place and a carpet, and He has fixed it firmly with mountains, and He settled it and heavied it until it settled and became subservient:
And He transformed it (into) stability so it settled down
And he strengthened it with firm, unshakable mountains.
He caused its springs to gush forth and manifested its hidden, and caused its rivers to flow and caused its plants, trees and fruits to grow, and spread the creation in it when he opened it out so they are its inhabitants until the (Day of) mutual calling. They live in its expanses and its borders until the matter ends and the period expires, Allah will permit it, so it will earthquake and move and throw out what is in it of the dead and speak of what the doers did on its face of good deeds and bad deeds: “That day it will declare its information (about all what happened over it of good and evil). Because your Lord has inspired it. That Day mankind will proceed in groups, that they may be shown their deeds. So whosoever does good equal to one weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to one weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it.” Surah [Zalzalah: 4-8]
O Muslims: And for Allah are great signs (that) He makes His slaves notice in this world warning, frightening, cautioning, terrifying, awakening and reminding: “And we sent not the signs except to warn, and to make them afraid (of destruction).” [Surah Israa 59] Qatada said: “Verily Allah frightens people with whatever He wishes of His slaves so that they may take lesson, remember and return (to the right path).”
And from the frightening signs and horrifying warnings and awakening lessons is the sign of burial underground, tremor and earthquake. Abu Hurairah (Radiallahu Anhu) said: The prophet ﷺ said: “The Hour will not be established until (religious) knowledge will be taken away, earthquakes will be very frequent, time will pass quickly, afflictions will appear, murders will increase and money will overflow amongst you.” [Narrated by Bukhari].
And Imran bin Husain- may Allah be pleased with him- said: That the messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “In this Ummah, there will be earthquakes, disfiguration (of faces which will be transformed into apes and pigs) and showers of stone (descending on them from heaven).” A man said: O messenger of Allah when will this be? He said: “When singing girls and musical instruments will become profuse and when liquor will be consumed (in abundance).” [Narrated by Tirmidhi]
And Aisha (Radiallahu Anha) said: The messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “At the end of this ummah there will be earthquakes, disfiguring and showers of stone.” She said: O messenger of Allah will we be destroyed while there are righteous people amongst us? He said: “Yes, when evil becomes widespread.” [Narrated by Tirmidhi]
And Saffiyah bint Abu Ubaid said: “The earth shook at the time of Umar until the beds trembled, so Umar gathered the people and said to them: “This is because of your bad actions. Mend your ways and make peace with your creator, otherwise if this happens again, I will leave you.” [Narrated by Ibn Abi Shaibah and Bayhaqi ].
And it was mentioned that Kufa tremored during the era of Abdullah bin Mas’ood (Radiallahu Anhu) so he said: “O people verily your Lord asks you to return, so return to him,” and the meaning of Him asking you to return: is that He requests from you to return from disobedience to that which pleases Him.
O Muslims: Verily what has occurred in the past days of earthquakes and tremors are significant events and a great matter dispatched with fear and apprehension from Allah – the exalted – and His punishment, so cry out and seek forgiveness (from Allah) and purify yourselves from sins and errors and be worried about the anger from the Almighty, and you make manifest fear, repentance, turning (to Allah), humility, poverty and misery, and increase supplications and honour wishing and hoping and be sincere in seeking refuge and do not become lax with regards to the remembrance of Allah (the Exalted) and humility to Him and closeness to Him and escaping to Him.
O the One to Whom all creation supplicates
And every living (being) for His Mercy toiling
You are the Called in every disaster
And You are the Refuge for those upon whom the means have narrowed
You are the Granter for the one whose escape has been blocked
You are the guide for the one whose path has been misguided
Verily We aspire for You and hopes are met.
With you and all are regretful and supplicating
So if You forgive then it is due to Might and Generosity
And if You punish then You are the Just Judge.
There is no god but you. Glory be to You. Verily we are the oppressors. Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us, and bestow not upon us Your mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers. My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, My Lord! Forgive and have mercy. My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for you are the Best of those who show mercy.
O Remover of harm, overlooking our crimes
Surely distress has – O Lord – surrounded us
We complained to You (of) circumstances that we are unable to
bear and we are really most deserving of them
Earthquakes which the deaf, stubborn are reduced to submission by
And how can the proud be stronger than the earthquakes
So with Your Supreme Great Name if
Our sins become great and the heart becomes evil, very evil
Then be kind and gift and be graceful and erase and pardon and be generous
And pardon, for everyone is, with regards to the surplus of ignorance, sinners.
“And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.” [Surah Shoora: 30] Qatada said: “It has been conveyed to us that no one is afflicted by the scratch of a branch or an injury to the foot or emotional exertion except due to a sin, and Allah pardons him for it even more.”
And Abu Musa (Radiallahu Anhu) said: “The sun eclipsed in the time of the prophet ﷺ so he stood up suddenly, fearing that the hour will be established, until he came to the mosque. Then he stood praying a long standing, bowing and prostrating, the like of which I had never seen him do in Salaah, then he said: “Verily these signs that Allah sends do not occur due to the death or birth of anyone, but Allah sends them to instil fear in His servants, so if you see any of them, then rush to His Remembrance, His Supplication and seek His forgiveness.” [Agreed upon] And Aisha (Radiallahu Anha) said: “When the messenger of Allah ﷺ saw clouds or wind, one could recognize it on his face, so I asked him, so he said: “O Aisha, how can we believe there is no punishment in it? Some people were punished with the wind, while the people saw the punishment but they said: this is bringing rain.” [Narrated by Bukhari]
The pious people are cautious
And they do not experience pain due to a sin.
When they desired general speech,
They considered it serious and held back.
If something shameless is said
Or it becomes apparent, they pretend not to see it and they give a deaf ear (to it).
So they depart and there comes a group,
Forceful and overflowing with forbidden actions.
So a gaping mouth for flavour,
And a hand grabbing wealth,
They desist from good actions
And for evil actions, they undertake and lead the way
And when their hideousness exhausts them, they lie and fabricate.
“We warn and make them afraid but it only increases them in naught save great disbelief, oppression and disobedience to Allah.” [Israa; Verse 60] “When Our Torment reached them, why then did they not believe with humility? But their hearts became hardened, and Satan made fair-seeming to them that which they used to do.” [Surah Anaam: 43] “And indeed We seized them with punishment, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke (Allah) with submission to him.” [Surah Mu’minoon 76]
How strange are people throughout their neglectfulness
and throughout their heedlessness and throughout their entertainment
They say we have hope in Allah, then they slacken
And if they (really) hoped, they would fear as they had hoped
“And none remembers but those who turn (to Allah) in obedience and in repentance (by begging His Pardon and by worshipping and obeying Him Alone and none else).” [Surah Gaafir; Verse 13] “But none remember (will receive admonition) except men of understanding.” [Surah Baqarah: 269] “Indeed in that (there) is a sure lesson for those who fear the torment of the Hereafter.” [Surah Hood: 103] “Verily, in this is an instructive admonition for whosoever fears Allah.” [Surah Naaziaat; Verse 26] “The reminder will be received by him who fears (Allah), But it will be avoided by the wretched.” [Surah A’laa: 10-11]
The one who fears Allah is not ignorant of intelligence
And the one who sleeps and his courage is thinking of his religion.
Allah does not caution except the intelligent and surely
He saves the intelligent from the danger of the caution
May Allah bless me and you in the Qur’an and Sunnah, and benefit me and you from what is in it of verses, explanations, proofs and wisdom. I say what you hear, and I seek forgiveness of Allah for me and you and for the rest of the Muslims from every sin and error, so seek His forgiveness. Verily He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
All praise be to Allah for His kindness and thanks to Him for His ability and bounties. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone. He has no partner. Great in His Being. And I bear witness that our prophet and leader Muhammed is his slave and messenger, a caller to his Pleasure. May Allah’s salutations be upon him and on his family, companions and brothers and much peace.
Thereafter: O Muslims: fear Allah and fear Him, and obey Him and do not disobey Him: “O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds).” [Surah Tawbah: 119]
O Muslims: Whoever has been afflicted by this calamity and is happy and expects reward, and is patient and says: verily we belong to Allah and to him is our return, Allah will replace his losses with guidance in his heart, and true certainty in his self and a quick replacement in his world. Suhaib (Radiallahu Anhu) narrated: the messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “How amazing is the affair of the believer. There is good for him in everything and that is for no one but the believer. If good times come his way, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him, and if hardship comes his way, he endures it patiently and that is better for him.” [Narrated by Muslim]
And the word of “Istirjaa”: Verily to Allah we belong and to Him is our return”, Allah has made it an escape for those of insight and a safeguarding for the tested and a glad tiding for the patient and those who say it, so there is no worry and no restlessness, but pleasure and submission.
Umm Salamah (Radiallahu Anhu) narrated: “I heard the messenger ﷺ saying: “There is no Muslim who is stricken with a calamity and says what Allah has enjoined: ‘Verily to Allah we belong and unto Him is our return. O Allah reward me for my affliction and compensate me with something better’, but Allah will compensate him with something better.” [Narrated by Muslim]
And Abu Sa’eed and Abu Hurairah (Radiallahu Anhum) narrated that they heard the messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” [Narrated by Muslim].
When you are trialled, then depend on Allah and be pleased with Him
Verily the One Who removes trials He is Allah.
When Allah decrees, then submit to His Power
No person has ability in what Allah has decreed
Despondency sometimes cuts off its companion.
Do not despair for verily the producer is Allah.
O Allah remove from us high prices, infectious diseases, usury, adultery, earthquakes and calamities, and earthquakes and calamities, and earthquakes and calamities, and bad trials, apparent and hidden, from our country especially and the rest of the Muslim countries in general, O Lord of the worlds.
O Allah we ask Your Protection from an evil day, an evil night and an evil hour.
O Allah keep us in Your security, protection and kindness, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
O Allah keep our people in al-‘Ais and Amlaj and its surroundings in Your security, protection and kindness, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
Allah is enough for us and sufficient. Allah is enough for us and sufficient. Allah hears the one who supplicates. There is no end for Allah. On Allah do we depend and unto Him do we repent.
O Allah we ask Your protection from defamation, plague, infectious disease and sudden trials in our selves, families, wealth and children. Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest. Allah is Greater than what we fear and caution of. Allah is the Greatest, the amount of our sins until they are forgiven.
O Allah we ask Your protection from the trouble of trials, overwhelming of calamities, bad fate and the malicious joy of enemies.
O Allah we ask Your Protection from the passing away of Your Bounties, the changing of Your comforts, the suddenness of Your punishment and of all Your wrath.
We ask Allah’s protection through all His Words, which no obedient or disobedient can encompass, from every evil that He created, fashioned and dispersed, and from the evil that descends from the sky and from the evil that ascends to it, and from the evil that enters the earth, and from the evil comes out of it and from the evil of the calamities of the night and day except the knocker with good, O Beneficent.
O Allah forgive our sins. O Allah forgive our sins. O Allah forgive our sins and our exceeding the limits in our affairs. And do not take us to task for our sins for we will be destroyed. And do not take us to task for our sins for we will be destroyed. And do not take us to task for our sins for we will be destroyed. And You are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy and the Best of forgivers.
O Allah guide our leader to that which You love and are pleased with, and guide him to righteousness and piety and grant him a pious, advising entourage that guides towards goodness and help him and distance from him an evil entourage, O Lord of the worlds.
O Allah grant ability to all the leaders of the Muslims to judge with Your Sharee’ah and follow the Sunnah of Your prophet Muhammad – peace be upon him -.
O Allah have mercy on our deceased, cure our ill, release our prisoners, help us against our enemies, with Your Mercy, O Strong, O Mighty.
Servants of Allah: Verily Allah has commanded you with a command that He began with Himself and repeated to His angels who glorify His Holiness and commanded you O believers from jinn and humans, so He said a noble saying: “Allah sends His salutations on the Prophet and also His angels too. O you who believe! Send your salutations on him, and greet him with the Islamic way of greeting.” [Surah Ahzaab: 56]
O Allah send salutations and peace on our prophet Muhammad and on all his family and companions, everlasting salutations and uninterrupted peace until the Day of Judgement.
Servants of Allah: “Verily, Allah enjoins Al-Adl and Al-Ihsan, and giving (help) to kith and kin: and forbids Al-Fahsha’, and Al-Munkar, and Al-Baghy (i.e. all kinds of oppression), He admonishes you, that you may take heed.” [Surah Nahl: Verse 90] So remember Allah, the Great, the Majestic, He will remember you, and thank Him for His bounties, He will increase for you. And the remembrance of Allah is great. And Allah knows what you do.
