Praise be to Allah, Who grants power and honour to true monotheism (tawheed) and its adherents and Who subjects polytheism and polytheists to humiliation and disgrace. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, Who has no partner in Lordship, worship, names, or attributes, and I bear witness that our Prophet Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, whom He has chosen for His divine message above all beings. O Allah! Bestow Your peace, prayers, and blessings upon him, his Household, and his Companions.
O Muslims! Fear Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He. By the fear of Allah you can improve your conditions and achieve happiness and purity in this world and in the Hereafter.
Brothers in Islam! There are means that lead to Allah’s support and other means that lead to losing such support. All Muslims are required to use the means that lead to power, honour, and victory at all times and in all places. This is a duty that Allah has imposed upon us, and it is essentially aimed at establishing monotheism, the true worship of Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, and keeping away from polytheism and anything that leads to it, in total obedience to the commands of Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, and those of His Messenger ﷺ. Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, says: “. . . If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm.” [Surah Muhammad: 7]
The believers can provide help in the cause of Allah by professing belief in His Oneness, implementing His divine law, supporting His religion, and discharging their duties towards Him. Only then can they defeat their enemies, no matter how crafty their enemies’ plots may be and how great their strength may seem. In fact, their enemies will then be reduced to nothing compared to the Muslims, who derive help, support, and victory from Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He; for those whom Allah supports will certainly gain the upper hand over their enemies and emerge victorious in their battle against them. Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, says: “If a good befalls you, it grieves them, but if some evil overtakes you, they rejoice at it. But if you remain patient and become Al-Muttaqoon (the pious), not the least harm will their cunning do to you. Surely, Allah surrounds all that they do.” [Surah Ale-‘Imran: 120]
Indeed, truly and sincerely striving to follow the teachings of Islam in all matters, implementing the law of Allah, and adhering to the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ constitute an invincible army that is never defeated at any time and in any place and that Allah never forsakes. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Be watchful of Allah, and He will protect you. Be watchful of Allah, and you will find Him with you.”
Once the Muslim ummah implements the law of its Lord, with which Allah’s Prophet ﷺ was sent, in accordance with the practice of the Prophet’s Companions (Radiallahu Anhum) prosperity will prevail, security will be ensured, the status of Muslims will be elevated, and their power will increase, as was the case with the early generations of Muslims, for Allah’s promise is true and He will never break it: “…and it was incumbent upon Us to help the believers.” [Surah al-Rum: 47]
Allah also says: “No doubt! Verily, the Auliya of Allah, and love Allah much, no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve, Those who believed, and used to fear Allah much.” [Surah Yunus: 62-3]
Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, will certainly fulfil His promise to reward those who fulfil their duties towards Him.
Brothers in Islam! Muslims will attain glory and power only when their main concern is this religion – when they give it precedence over everything else and make it the ultimate authority that guides their lives and the constitution that governs all their affairs, in all sincerity and faithfulness. Allah, Exalted be He says: “Verily, Allah will help those who help His [Cause]. Truly, Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty. Those (Muslim rulers) who, if We give them power in the land, [they] enjoin Iqamat-as-salat, to pay the zakat and they enjoin al-ma’ruf, and forbid al-munkar. And with Allah rests the end of [all] matters.” [Surah al-Hajj: 40-41]
It is regrettable and even shameful that some members of the Muslim ummah fail to implement Allah’s law in times of victory and in times of weakness and that Muslim peoples do not call for the implementation of Allah’s law in those countries.
O Believers! True power and glory and true human strength in this worldly life can only be attained by adhering to the Noble Qur’an and the Sunnah of the honourable Prophet ﷺ. Our Lord, Glorified and Exalted be He, says: “Verily, We will indeed make victorious Our Messengers and those who believe in this world’s life and on the Day when the witnesses will stand forth.” [Surah Ghafir: 51]
Describing the condition of Muslims in his time, when the Tartars inflicted countless tribulations on them and subjected them to a great deal of suffering, Ibn Taymiyah (Rahimahullah) writes, basing his argument on the divine wisdom revealed in the Qur’an and the Sunnah in this respect, “Anyone who has knowledge of the history of peoples and their rulers can tell that that those who support Allah’s religion the most, fight His enemies the most, and are the most obedient to Allah and His Messenger are the ones whom Allah supports the most and who command the most obedience and respect. This has been observed from the time of the leader of the faithful, ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattab (Radiallahu Anhu) until now.”
O Muslim ummah! Respecting Allah’s commands requires that we should make the physical preparations and use the necessary material means; for we are a nation that ought to adhere to our religion and not to incline to this worldly life. This requires us to make the necessary material preparations, bearing in mind the circumstances of time and place. Doing so is, from an Islamic perspective, a duty that is incumbent upon the ruler and the ruled alike. The rulers and societies of the Muslim ummah have been enjoined to make all the preparations they can afford. Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, says: “And make ready against them all you can of power, including steeds of war to threaten the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides whom, you may not know but whom Allah does know . . . ” [Surah al-Anfal: 60].
It is reported in Saheeh Muslim that the Prophet ﷺ interpreted “power” as archery. In many ahadeeth, the Prophet ﷺ urged Muslims to learn archery, implying the necessity of making preparations to face the enemy.
O Scholars of Islam! O Callers to Islam! O Muslim Rulers! Concentrate your efforts, first and foremost, on calling Muslims to hold fast to the purified revelation and the teachings of the Book that Allah has sent down to us, and to fully adhere to true monotheism and the Prophet’s Sunnah. Let this be our guiding principle and our motto in all our acts and endeavours.
Brothers in Islam! The main reason behind the defeat and humiliation of the Muslim ummah today is its failure to implement the law of Allah and to abide by His orders. Is it not shameful that, for long periods of time, many Muslim countries have failed to rule by the Qur’an and by the Sunnah of the honourable Prophet ﷺ? Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, says: “And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.” [Surah ash-Shura: 30]
We should always remember that Allah is our Creator, Who knows what is best for us and the reasons behind our weakness. Allah says: “And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.” [Surah ash-Shura: 30]
He also says: “Whatever of good reaches you is from Allah, but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourself . . .” [Surah an-Nisaa: 79]
It is an undeniable fact that wicked deeds and heinous and destructive acts are rampant in Muslim societies, which is a portent of evil for all Muslims. Our Lord, Glorified and Exalted be He, says: “Evil has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned, that Allah may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return.” [Surah Ar-Rum: 41]
In this respect, the Prophet ﷺ said, “If people see some evil but do not change it, Allah will soon send His punishment upon them all” [Reported by Ahmad with a sahih (authentic) chain of transmission] In another hadeeth narrated by Ummu Salamah, she asked the Prophet ﷺ “Shall we be destroyed while there are good people amongst us?” He said, “Yes, if evil predominates”.
As members of the Muslim Nation, we should follow the example of our Prophet ﷺ; if not, then we are not worth anything. Although Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, is well-pleased with the Prophet’s Companions, and although they are second in superiority only to the prophets, He rebuked them in one of the verses of the Qur’an, informing them that their defeat after they had the upper hand at the Battle of Uhud was due to the disobedience of some archers to the Prophet’s command to remain in the positions in which he had posted them. If that was the case with the Prophet’s Companions, then there is no wonder that we suffer defeat and humiliation commensurate with the magnitude of our disobedience to Allah’s orders, now that evil is widespread in our midst, numerous sins are committed, and man-made laws are implemented in most Muslim countries instead of the pure Shari’a laws.
Read and contemplate the following verse, which reflects our present reality: “Then do you believe in a part of the Scripture and reject the rest? Then what is the recompense of those who do so among you, except disgrace in the life of this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they shall be consigned to the most grievous torment. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.” [Surah al-Baqara: 85]
Mentioning the bad consequences to be suffered by those who violate the teachings of Islam and who are content with this worldly life and prefer it to the Hereafter, our Prophet ﷺ said, “When you enter into the ‘inah transaction (a type of usurious transaction), hold the tails of oxen (to plough the land), are content only with farming (so that ploughing and farming are your main concern), and give up jihad (struggle in the way of Allah), Allah will make disgrace prevail over you, and will not remove it until you return to your religion” [Reported by Abu-Dawud and classified as sahih (authentic) by hadith scholars]
Therefore, fear Allah, O Muslims! Return to your religion, hold fast to Islam, and establish your Lord’s law so that you may attain honour, power, success, and victory.
I have said what you have heard, and I ask forgiveness of Allah for myself, for you, and for all Muslims, for any sin we have committed. Ask Allah for forgiveness, for He is the Most Forgiving and the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah alone. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, Who has no partners, and I bear witness that our Prophet Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah! Bestow Your prayers, peace and blessings upon him, his Household, and his Companions until the Day of Judgment.
I advise you and advise myself to fear Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He; for this is Allah’s commandment to all the nations, past and present.
O Muslims! The defeat and weakness suffered by the Muslims today are partly attributed to their disunity and failure to join forces to help one another in righteousness and piety and to their disagreement on following the Prophet’s Sunnah and guidance. As one of the Muslim predecessors rightly said, “Do we not have the same book, the same prophet, and the same aim? Why then do we differ among ourselves?”
Why do we take up arms against each other? Why do we look disgraced and humiliated before all other nations? Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, says: “And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute lest you lose courage and your strength depart, and be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are As-Sabirin.” [Surah al-Anfal: 46]
We Muslims must agree and unite. Let us fear Allah regarding Muhammad ﷺ as we are his followers. Let us join forces to follow his Sunnah and to ensure that our worldly interests are in line with the interests of our religion and that all our efforts are devoted to realizing the desired aims and obtaining the various benefits.
Let us not make differences of opinion in matters that do not affect the fundamentals of religion lead us to disunity, division, disintegration and separation. Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, has commanded us to hold firmly to the Qur’an; otherwise, we will suffer terrible consequences. He says:”And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah (i.e. this Quran), and be not divided among yourselves. . .” [Surah Ale Imraan: 103]
Allah has also imposed upon us the duty of providing help and support to our fellow Muslims everywhere as much as we can. Allah does not burden a person beyond his scope, but a Muslim is required to be true to Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, to obey His commands and to be sincerely devoted to Him. As Allah says: “. . . then if they had been true to Allah, it would have been better for them.” [Surah Muhammad: 21]
One of the best deeds is to ask Allah to bestow His peace and blessings upon the honourable Prophet. O Allah! Bestow prayers, peace, and blessings upon Muhammad, all his Household and Companions, their contemporaries after the death of the Prophet ﷺ and all those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment.
O Allah! Have mercy upon us. O Allah! Have mercy upon us. O Allah! Have mercy on Muslims and protect them from every calamity and trial. O Allah! Protect them from every calamity and trial. O Allah! Protect them from every calamity and trial. O Allah! Hasten the victory of our oppressed brothers everywhere. O Allah! Hasten the victory of our oppressed brothers everywhere.
O Allah! You are their Lord and their God, and You are the Most Merciful of all the merciful! O Allah! Have mercy upon them. O Allah! Hasten their relief. O Allah! Hasten their relief. O Allah! Hasten their relief.
O Allah! Let all Muslims witness the month of Ramadan with peace, prosperity, and stability prevailing in the Muslim Nation, O Owner of Majesty and Honour!
O Allah, forgive the sins of all Muslims, men and women, and of all believers, men and women, dead and alive.
O Allah! Let us witness the month of Ramadan. O Allah! Let us witness the month of Ramadan, and help us to fast and perform the night prayers during that month. O Allah! Make it a month of victory, strength and success, O Ever-Living! O Self-Subsisting! O Allah, make it a month that brings about victory, power, success, and righteousness for the Muslims, O Ever-Living! O Self-Subsisting!
O Allah! Guide our Imam to what you accept and love. O Allah! Unite the Muslims through him. O Allah! Unite the Muslims through him. O Allah! Unite the Muslims through him.
O Allah! Make the best among Muslims the ones who rule them. O Allah! Protect Muslims from the evil of the worst among them. O Allah! Protect Muslims from the evil of the worst among them. You are Sufficient for us, and You are the Best Disposer of affairs. You are Sufficient for us and You are the Best Disposer of affairs. You are Sufficient for us, and You are the Best Disposer of affairs. O Allah! Protect Muslims from the evil of the worst among them. O Ever-Living! O Self-Subsisting!
O Allah! Grant us safety in our homelands. O Allah! Grant us safety in our homelands. O Allah! Grant us safety in our homelands. O Allah! Fill our homelands with faith and piety. O Allah! Make true monotheism and the Prophet’s Sunnah prevail in our homelands, O Protector!
Servants of Allah! Remember Allah much. The last of our call is “Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.”
