First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah! Praise be to Allah, the Supreme, the Omnipotent! He has inimitably conceived creation and minutely controlled its operation. May He be exalted and gratified: The Forgiver of sin, the Acceptor of repentance, the Severe in punishment, the Bestower (of favours). Lâ ilâha illâ Huwa (none has the right to be worshiped but He), to Him is the final return. [Surah Ghâfir: 3]

I praise Him and thank Him for His abundant bounties and profuse favours. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, with no associate. To Him alone belongs sovereignty and unto Him alone gratitude is due. He imparts life into existence and retreats it thereof. He is totally capable of performing whatever deeds He wishes. I also bear witness that our Master and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is Allah’s Servant and Messenger, heralding felicitous destiny for believers and portending unfortunate fate for disbelievers. He is the guide illuminating believers’ path. May Allah send His Salat and incessant Peace onto him, his family, his wives, his Companions, and his tabi’în (the contemporaries of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ after his death), and all those who have followed them righteously and are treading the right path.

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah Whose kindness preempts all misfortunes and wards off all conspiracies! I praise Him and thank Him and beg for more of His favours and magnanimity. With His kindness and favours graces and benefits multiply. I bear witness that there is no deity worth worshiping except Allah alone with no associates. The signs of His oneness are infinitely manifest in in all His creations. I also bear witness that our Master and Prophet Muhammad is the Servant and Messenger of Allah –a chosen Prophet of a chosen descent, of a most noble birth, may Allah send His Salat (Graces, Honours and Mercy), Peace and blessings on him, his pure and virtuous family –people of benevolence and high traits– and on his sincere and audacious Companions whose merits realized great achievements, and on the tabiʿīn and their followers in righteousness.

Having said that, I urge you, O people, and myself to fear Allah. So fear of Allah, may Allah have mercy on you. There is nothing more precious than sound health and nothing more prodigious than contentment. “…and the raiment of righteousness, that is better.” [Surah al-Aʿrāf: 26]

All praise is due to Allah and He deserves all Praise. All that is good is in Allah’s hands and He has the power over all things. I praise Allah and thank Him for His abundant blessings and favors. I bear witness that there is no God except Allah, the only One God, who has no partner in worship. Glory be to Allah, the unique God who has no equal. I bear witness that Muhammad (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam) is Allah’s servant and messenger. He brought us all that is good and warned us against all that is evil. Oh Allah, send your peace and blessings upon Muhammad, his family and companions, and whomever follows them in righteousness.

Oh people, I advise myself and you to fear Allah. Fear Him so that He may have mercy upon you. Hasten to do good deeds and turn unto Allah in repentance before deaths comes upon you, as no one knows the time death will come. How can a person expect to attain Jannah if he is negligent of these teachings. How can it be that one turns sincerely to Allah in repentance while he does not care about his fate in the hereafter? Indeed happiness and success are with the person who keeps in mind that Allah is Ever Watching over him.

Delivered by Sheikh Saalih al Humaid
Muharram 16, 1429 ~ January 25, 2008

All praise is due to Allah, we praise him and seek his forgiveness and mercy. All praise is due to Allah who has blessed us with many a blessings and has raised the heavens and who is in control of affairs of the world. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah. And I bear witness, without any hypocrisy, weakness, or uncertainty, that there is nothing worthy of worship besides Allah without any partners. And I bear witness that Muhammad (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam) is His final messenger and servant. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and all those who follow his footsteps until the last day. (Ameen)

Oh people, I remind myself and then you, fear Allah and be aware of Him. Time is swiftly passing by and all of us are afflicted with indecisions and challenges of meeting our desires or whims and that which is most necessary for us. We ought to pay attention to our final destination and give priority to that which will lead us to Jannah and be of benefit to us in our final abode and destination, over our transient needs and desires of this world.
