First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah with whose graces good deed are accomplished. We praise Him and ask for his assistance in the bygone and the forthcoming events. I bear witness that there is no deity worth worshipping except Allah alone with no associate. With His Grace the pilgrims to His House have been able to complete their Hajj having stood on Arafat soil. I equally bear witness that Muhammad is the Servant and Messenger of Allah; he was sent down by his Lord with guidance and lucid Qur’ānic verses. He who follows the straight path will be saved; he who rejects it will be doomed and done for. May Allah send His Salat and Peace on him, his righteous and immaculate family, his wives –the Mothers of the Faithful– his Companions and all those who follow them in righteousness till the Day of Judgement.

Now then, O Muslims! Observe taqwa of Allah, for taqwa is the best sustenance on the Day of Promise. And take a provision (with you) for the journey, but the best provision is taqwa. So fear Me, O men of understanding!” [Surah al Baqarah: 197]

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah! We praise Him, seek His help, ask Him to forgive us, and we repent to Him. We seek refuge with Allah from the evils of ourselves and our bad deeds. Whomever Allah guides, no one will ever misguide; and whomever Allah misguides, no one will ever guide. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone with no associate, and I also bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is Allah’s Servant and Messenger.

O you who believe! Fear Allâh as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islâm.” [Surah Ale Imran: 102]

O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person, and from him He created his wife, and from them both He created many men and women; and fear Allâh through Whom you demand (your mutual rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allâh is Ever an All-Watcher over you. [Surah an Nisa: 1]

O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allâh and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allâh and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم), he has indeed achieved a great achievement (i.e. he will be saved from the Hell-fire and will be admitted to Paradise).”  [Surah al Ahzab: 70-71]

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah, praise be to Allah! He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him). He is the Evident and the Hidden. He has created everything and then proportioned it, and He has measured (preordainments for everything even to be blessed or wretched), and then guided. In His hand is the sovereignty of everything, and He protects (all), while against Whom there is no protector.[1] Praise be to Him! I thank Him, repent to Him and ask Him His forgiveness; I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah with no associate, and I also bear witness that Muhammad is Allah’s Servant and Messenger; Allah sent him very shortly before the Hour as a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner, and as one who invites to Allâh by His Leave, and as a lamp spreading light.[2] May Allah send His salat and blessings upon him, his virtuous and pure family, his wives –the mothers of the faithful– his Companions, the tabi’in, and all those who follow them in righteousness till the Day of Judgment!

Having said that, I advise you and myself to fear Allah (Jalla wa ‘Ala). You should know that this life is but a temporary passageway, not an eternal abode, and that Allah has appointed you His vicegerents in it so that He sees what you do. Therefore, he who fears Him is guided; and he who disobeys Him should only blame himself:  “whosoever does righteous good deed, it is for (the benefit of) his ownself; and whosoever does evil, it is against his ownself. And your Lord is not at all unjust to (His) slaves.”[Surah Fussilat: 46]

O People! An honest believer is kind-hearted, good looking, and has neither rancor nor envy.  He wears his heart upon his sleeve and has a natural disposition for goodness.

(The Sheikh quotes a line of poetry):

Whatever trait an individual may harbour within,

Will not be hidden from people, even if he should think so.

All praise be to Allah who has revealed the Book to His servant and has not placed therein any crookedness so as to warn of a severe chastisement from Him. And give glad tidings to the righteous believers who do good deeds that they shall have a good reward. [Surah Kahf: Ayaah 1-3] I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, the One True God who has no partner in worship. It is Allah who has honored the children of Adam, carried them on land and sea, provided them with good and pure things, and elevated them above many of His creatures. I bear witness that Muhammad is Allah’s servant and messenger and the best human being. He left us on the right path and only evil people deviate from this path. May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, his family, companions, and those who follow him until the Day of Judgment.

Fellow Muslims, fear Allah and know that He watches over you wherever you are. Surely, nothing in the earth or in the heavens in hidden from Allah. It is He who shaped you in the wombs of your mothers as He pleases. There is no God but Him, the Almighty, the All Wise.

Wealth

Wealth

Sheikh Saud ash Shuraim
March 14, 2008 ~ Rabee al Awwal 7, 1429

All praise is due to Allah, the One who forgives our sins and accepts our repentance, the One who punishes and the One who rewards. There is none worthy of worship except Allah without any partners. We praise Him and we thank Him. To Him do we turn to in repentance and we seek His forgiveness. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah without any partners. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, who conveyed the message, delivered his trust, and strove on the path of Allah until he attained certainty. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, on his family, his companions, and those who followed them and their footsteps until the Last Day.

Oh Muslims, a piece of advice that applies to you and I is to fear Allah the Exalted and Almighty and remain aware of him in private and in public. We need to follow up every sinful deed with a good deed. When we are dealing with people we deal with them in the best of character and manners. Allah says: “Verily, he who fears Allâh with obedience to Him, and is patient, then surely, Allâh makes not the reward of the Muhsinûn to be lost.” [Surah Yusuf: Ayah 90]

Innovations in Celebrations

Innovations in Celebrations

Delivered by Sheikh Saud ash Shuraim
Safar 8, 1429 ~ February 15, 2008

All praise is due to Allah, the most Endearing, and the most Forgiving. It is He who has created the day and the night. And it is He who has made them succeed one another. He knows what is in the heavens and the earth, that which we cannot see, and He is not seen, but He sees everything. Indeed He knows everything that happens. And I bear witness that there is nothing worthy of our servitude except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger who advised the Ummah with his guidance, and removed from us the taints of jahiliyya. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his family, and companions on a perpetual basis.

The advice we give to all, and that we all ought to pay heed to is to be aware of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) and fear Him so that we do not fall into that which displeases him. Everything that is an innovation in the deen is a bid’ah, and every innovation is a misguidance. The maturity and development of a Muslim is evident in the way he conducts himself in terms of his belief and the actions that emanate from this belief. He is a person who follows the guidance that is contained in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam). He stays away from ignorance, and that which leads to ignorance, in creating new matters to the deen and innovating that which is not in the deen. A prominent feature of every Muslim is that he is humble and has humility when facing Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) and that which is required of him. What other quality can a believer have if he does not have this quality of humility? We only provide an avenue for the Shaytaan to lead us astray and lure us to create innovations when we are ignorant and when we fail to humble ourselves in front of the ocean of knowledge that is available for us and we think that we know better than that is contained in the Sunnah and the works from the rightly guided ulama. We then resort to measures and ways which the Messenger of Allah (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam) did not teach, nor is it in the Book of Allah.
