First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah. Praise be to Allah, Who has urged His servants to hold fast to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. I praise Him, Glorified be He, and I thank Him. He is the Owner of all Grace and Favours. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, Who has no partners, and Who has given His servants refuge from the evil of people and jinn. I also bear witness that our master and prophet Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, the leader of the believers and the guide to the true religion. May Allah bestow His peace and blessings upon him and upon his Household and Companions in times of ease and in times of hardship.

O Muslims! I advise you and advise myself to fear Allah, for that is the best provision for the Day of Resurrection. Allah, Exalted be He, says: “O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam.” [Surah Ale ‘Imraan: 102]

Amidst all these dreadful calamities and trials that have befallen the Muslim nation, the enormous differences of opinion, and the widespread bloodshed, one can only wonder, “What is the way out of all these disasters? How can we extinguish the raging fires of trials, put an end to the escalation of hate, and safeguard the possessions gained by the nation?”

Allah, Exalted be He, says: “And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah, and be not divided among yourselves, and remember Allah’s Favour on you, for you were enemies one to another but He joined your hearts together, so that, by His Grace, you became brethren (in Islamic Faith), and you were on the brink of a pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus Allah makes His verses clear to you, that you may be guided.” [Surah Ale ‘Imraan: 103]

Holding fast to the Qur’an and the Sunnah is the greatest obligation and most sublime pillar in Islam. The Muslim nation can only obtain virtuousness and gain salvation by holding fast to the Qur’an and the Sunnah, just as a drowning victim would hold on to a lifebuoy for fear of death. Islam alone can reconcile discordant hearts, extinguish the fiery sparks of enmity and remove grudges from hearts. Allah, Exalted be He, says: “And He has united their (i.e. believers’) hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts, but Allah has united them…” [Surah al Anfaal: 63]

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah, “Who sent down the criterion (of right and wrong, i.e. this Qur’an) to His slave that he may be a warner to the ‘Alamin (mankind and jinns). He to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Who has begotten no son and for Whom there is no partner in the dominion. He has created everything, and has measured it exactly according to its due measurements.” [Surah al-Furqan:1-2]

I praise my Lord and thank Him profusely. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, Who has no partner. He has encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge. Verily, He is All-Knowing, All-Omnipotent. I also bear witness that our Prophet and master Muhammad is His servant and Messenger whom Allah has sent before the Hour comes as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner; and as one who invites to Allah by His leave and as a lamp spreading light. O Allah! Confer bountiful peace and blessings upon Your servant and Messenger Muhammad, his household, and his Companions.

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah! We give praise to Him, ask for His forgiveness, and return to Him in repentance. O Allah! Eternal and unrelenting praise is due to You! We do express infinite gratitude to You, both secretly and publicly!

(The Sheikh cites two lines of poetry about praise):

We untiringly voice praise to the Lord of the Worlds,

Praise that is doubled, nay trebled!

           Our thanks multi-fold are due

To Him every now and then.

I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, with no associate. He bestowed upon us the blessed shari’â and the Qur’ān, and I bear witness that our Prophet and Master Muhammad is Allah’s Servant and Messenger. He is endowed with the soundest proof and signs from Allah and represents Muslims’ exemplary model of unconditional belief in, and submission to, divine revelation. Oh Allah! Confer Your blessed, fragrant, and most agreeable salât and peace on him, his family which are chaste morally and wise intellectually, his Companions who sanctified the texts of sharî’a and were brave knights, the tabi’în (the contemporaries of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ after his death), and all those who have righteously followed their footsteps.

Now then, servants of Allah, observe taqwa as it should be observed, for observing the taqwa of Allah is the ultimate glory and the sublime guidance one may aspire to. It is the key to achievement, triumph, and satisfaction: O you who believe! Fear Allâh as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islâm. [Surah Ale Îmran: 102]

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah, the Owner of Greatness. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah, alone with no partners, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful; and I bear witness that our Prophet and master Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, the master of all the children of Adnan. O Allah! Bestow Your prayers, peace and blessings on Muhammad, his household, and his Companions till the day of Judgement.

O Muslims, I advise you and myself to fear Allah, Exalted be He, Who says: “O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed achieved a great achievement.” [Surah al-Ahzab: 70-71].
