First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah! We praise Him, seek His assistance, and repent to Him. We seek refuge in Allah from our wrong doings and our sins. He whom Allah guides may never go astray and he who is deprived of Allah’s guidance may never be guided. I bear witness that there is no deity worth worshiping except Allah alone with no associate, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger. May Allah send his Mercy, Peace and Blessing upon him, his family and all his Companions.

Now then,  I urge you and myself to observe taqwa (fear) of Allah in private and in public. It is the provision of the journey, the essence of virtues, the birthplace of traits, the source of power, the ascendance of sublimity, and the composure of the heart in times of trials. “And be afraid of the Day when you shall be brought back to Allâh. Then every person shall be paid what he earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.” [Surah al-Baqarah: 281]

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah, Who has made the present life a transitory abode and the hereafter a permanent abode. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, Who has no partners in the hereafter or in the present life, and I bear witness that our prophet, Muhammad, is His servant and messenger, the chosen prophet and favoured messenger. O Allah! Bestow Your prayers, peace, and blessings upon him and upon his family and pious Companions.

“O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed achieved a great achievement.” [Surah al-Ahzab: 70-71]

O Muslims!  People today, who live in a world full of successive changes and developments and face its temptations and seductive amusements, are in dire need of deeply contemplating the verses in which Allah, Majesty and Glory be to Him, says:  “Think! (even) if We do let them enjoy for years, and afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised, all that with which they used to enjoy shall not avail them.” [Surah ash-Shu‘ara’: 205-207]

First Khutbah

Verily all praise belongs to Allah. We praise Him, seek help from Him, ask His forgiveness and ask His guidance. And we ask Allah’s protection against the evil of ourselves and the evil of our deeds. Whosoever Allah guides, there will be no misguidance for him, and whosoever He leads astray, there is no guidance for him.

And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone. He has no partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is his servant and messenger.

O you who believe fear Allah as He ought to be feared. And do not die except as Muslims.” [Surah Aal Imraan: 102]

O mankind fear your Lord who created you from a single soul, and from him (Adam), He created his wife (Hawwa) and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever an all-Watcher over you.” [Surah Nisaa: 1]

O you who believe fear Allah and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His messenger he has indeed achieved a great achievement.” [Surah Ahzaab: 70]

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah with whose graces good deed are accomplished. We praise Him and ask for his assistance in the bygone and the forthcoming events. I bear witness that there is no deity worth worshipping except Allah alone with no associate. With His Grace the pilgrims to His House have been able to complete their Hajj having stood on Arafat soil. I equally bear witness that Muhammad is the Servant and Messenger of Allah; he was sent down by his Lord with guidance and lucid Qur’ānic verses. He who follows the straight path will be saved; he who rejects it will be doomed and done for. May Allah send His Salat and Peace on him, his righteous and immaculate family, his wives –the Mothers of the Faithful– his Companions and all those who follow them in righteousness till the Day of Judgement.

Now then, O Muslims! Observe taqwa of Allah, for taqwa is the best sustenance on the Day of Promise. And take a provision (with you) for the journey, but the best provision is taqwa. So fear Me, O men of understanding!” [Surah al Baqarah: 197]

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah. Praise be to Allah, Who has commanded us to obey Him and urged us to attain His favours and return to Him in repentance. I praise Allah, Glorified be He, and thank Him for having paved the way of success and happiness for us. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with Whom we should associate no partners in sacrifice, prayers and worship, and I bear witness that our master and Prophet Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, who showed us the way to guidance and leadership. May Allah bestow His blessings upon him, his Family, and his Companions, who were steadfast and sovereign people.

O Muslims! I advise you and advise myself to fear Allah. Allah, Might and Majesty be to Him, says: “O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam.” [Surah Ale Imran: 102]

Allah, Glorified be He, also says: “O you who believe! Answer Allah (by obeying Him) and (His) Messenger when he (peace and blessings be upon him) calls you to that which will give you life . . .” [Surah al-Anfal: 24]

Answering the call of Allah and His Messenger means answering the call of Islam in its entirety and fully obeying all that our Lord and His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, enjoined us to do. A Muslim obeys Allah’s commandments in every aspect of his life – in his prayers, in giving zakah, in fasting, in his obedience to his parents, in maintaining ties of kinship, in his conduct with others, and in his clothing, appearance, and work. A Muslim woman obeys Allah’s commandments regarding her veil, her adornment, her house, and her relationship with her husband and children.

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah the Sovereign, the Pure, the Peace, I thank Him (I) for His ample favours and graces, and I bear witness that there is no deity worth worshipping except Allah alone with no associate. He ordered that Hajj be made to His House and made it a religious obligation for all Muslims. I also bear witness that our Prophet Muhammad is the Servant and Messenger of Allah and that he is the best of all those who performed prayers, gave zakat, practiced fasting, and stood at ‘Arafa and Al-Mash’ar al-Harām[1]. We beseech Allah to send His Salat and Peace upon His Servant and Messenger Muhammad, his family, Companions –the honorable and obedient– the tabi’in and upon all those who followed them in righteousness.

Now then, servants of Allah: I enjoin you to fear Allah and to remember that you will stand before Him on “the Day when man will see that (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the disbeliever will say: “Woe to me! Would that I were dust![Surah An-Naba’: 40]That Day shall a man flee from his brother, And from his mother and his father,And from his wife and his children. Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others.” [Surah ‘Abasa: 34-37]

O Muslims!  In every Hajj ceremony and rite, servitude to Allah assumes its most perspicuous form. Its effects and features can be clearly seen and sensed in observing these rites such as ihram,[2] uncovering of the head, circumambulation of Ka’bah, touching its corner, kissing the Black Stone, the fast walking between Safā and Marwā, standing at ‘Arafa, spending the night at Muzdalifah and Mina, casting the stones, and animal slaughtering.

Holding Fast to the Qur’an and the Sunnah

First Khutbah

Praise be to Allah. Praise be to Allah, Who has urged His servants to hold fast to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. I praise Him, Glorified be He, and I thank Him. He is the Owner of all Grace and Favours. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, Who has no partners, and Who has given His servants refuge from the evil of people and jinn. I also bear witness that our master and prophet Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, the leader of the believers and the guide to the true religion. May Allah bestow His peace and blessings upon him and upon his Household and Companions in times of ease and in times of hardship.

O Muslims! I advise you and advise myself to fear Allah, for that is the best provision for the Day of Resurrection. Allah, Exalted be He, says: “O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam.” [Surah Ale ‘Imraan: 102]

Amidst all these dreadful calamities and trials that have befallen the Muslim nation, the enormous differences of opinion, and the widespread bloodshed, one can only wonder, “What is the way out of all these disasters? How can we extinguish the raging fires of trials, put an end to the escalation of hate, and safeguard the possessions gained by the nation?”

Allah, Exalted be He, says: “And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah, and be not divided among yourselves, and remember Allah’s Favour on you, for you were enemies one to another but He joined your hearts together, so that, by His Grace, you became brethren (in Islamic Faith), and you were on the brink of a pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus Allah makes His verses clear to you, that you may be guided.” [Surah Ale ‘Imraan: 103]

Holding fast to the Qur’an and the Sunnah is the greatest obligation and most sublime pillar in Islam. The Muslim nation can only obtain virtuousness and gain salvation by holding fast to the Qur’an and the Sunnah, just as a drowning victim would hold on to a lifebuoy for fear of death. Islam alone can reconcile discordant hearts, extinguish the fiery sparks of enmity and remove grudges from hearts. Allah, Exalted be He, says: “And He has united their (i.e. believers’) hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts, but Allah has united them…” [Surah al Anfaal: 63]
